Olawole Aro

wole_aro

Wole Aro is a Nigerian musicologist and composer. He started music composition from early age of 3. Owning to the unconventionality in his music, Wole was noted by members of his family at this tender age to have chanted and sang some phrases in his yoruba dialect. Yet, this speck of music ingenuity lied untapped for several years until he decided to study music in the university. Wole was exposed to Anglican hymns, chants and canticles from the church. He had his formal music training at the department of Music of Delta State University, Abraka Delta state from 2008 - 2012. Wole was groomed as a music composer under the mentorship of Dr Atinuke Layade, Dr A.A. Ogisi, Late Dr and Mrs J.O. Ofosu and Dr S.O. Ufuani. Wole, as fondly called by associates was known to have exceptional skills in western harmony, counterpoint, music transcription and music composition. His compositions are chiefly influenced by African music traditions as well as the works of common practice composers. Popular among his compositions are “Ise Loogun Ise” for high voices and piano accompaniment, “Reminisce” for violin and piano accompaniment, “Gold” Suite with flute solo, “Praise Ye the Lord” for SATB and contralto solo, “Ojumo Ire” for contralto and piano accompaniment, Violin concerto in the D major, Iyunade: A Nigerian 3 acts opera and “E Korin” a cappella for SATB. Though he is interested in more study on Composition for Film and other media, he is currently a Music teacher and concert violinist. He enjoys travelling, hiking, reading, teaching, meeting new people and listening to instrumental music. Wole is a member of Nigeria Institute of Management (Chartered).
